Women — don’t take Pelosi’s bait!

OPINION:

“Republicans want to control women.”

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi didn’t waste a second politicizing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade.

Ironically, as Democrats largely ignored the pro-abortion activists’ threats, their harassment and even an assassination attempt against the justices after Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.’s draft opinion was leaked, so too did those same justices. They refused to be intimidated and dutifully fulfilled their obligation to reverse an unconstitutional ruling from 1973.

In her press conference after the ruling, Mrs. Pelosi said gravely, “Reproductive freedom is on the ballot this November.” And who can blame her for trying to sow fear in women and exploit their emotions? Mrs. Pelosi and other Democrat leaders need the female voting bloc to expand their caucus. It’s their pitiful Hail Mary attempt to hang on to power by distracting women from how universally terrible Democrat policies have been for them. Even Axios’ Jonathan Swan noted that “this issue has been a life-raft” for Democrats.

They might need a bigger boat. Democrats have made life for Americans worse in almost every imaginable way — skyrocketing inflation, record-high gas prices, border chaos, surging crime and a supply chain crisis resulting in tampon and baby formula shortages. Throw in the fact that President Biden is responsible for 13 dead Marines killed in Afghanistan (whose families are still waiting for promised justice), the fact that we’re quickly approaching World War III on his watch, and there is no way to describe Mr. Biden’s first two years in office as anything but disastrous.

Democrats do not solve problems. Their policies create them, while they desperately try to distract people from them. It’s why the Jan. 6 hearings are such a “made-for-TV” production, and why Democrats keep insisting that our very democracy is at stake if Republicans win in November. Democrats fail to understand that the U.S. is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. The Supreme Court does understand that, thankfully, as its recent ruling demonstrated.

The new “Big Lie” isn’t about a stolen election, it’s the idea that returning abortion decisions to the states will end women’s rights completely unless Democrats get more power.

That’s not to say that it isn’t an effective strategy. The midterms should be a slam dunk for the GOP and this ruling may make sweeping GOP victories less certain.

We could get into the weeds about the nuance the abortion debate should have, but it’s seemingly too late for that. Democrats have now gone so far left on this issue that the Biden administration refuses to outright deny that our president, purportedly a devout Catholic, favors abortions up to the moment of birth. Pro-abortion activists “shout out” their abortions with a callous disregard for humanity. We Testify, an organization that pays women to share their abortion stories, states on their home page that they believe ”people who have abortions are our future.” Abortion is considered an act of stunning bravery by an ever-growing number of leftists rather than something that should be “safe, legal, and rare.”

But Republicans have their own extremes to contend with. Science — which leftists insist conservatives ignore — tells us inarguably that life begins at conception, but too many conservatives forget that pregnancies don’t. And it’s an important distinction.

Conservatives who disapprove of emergency contraception or even contraception, in general, are missing an opportunity to gain ground with moderate people who value life. Instead of having a thoughtful, productive debate, the most radical voices on each side dominate the discussion, even though most Americans do not align with those extremes. Conservatives should reject ideas that make emergency contraception less accessible and that criminalize women who seek abortions. They should seek to reform burdensome adoption regulations. And people who are pro-abortion should seek reasonable limitations on them instead of tacitly condoning partial-birth and even up-to-birth abortions.

Women should know that the Supreme Court’s decision did not ban abortions in the U.S. It returned the debates where they belong, to the states, and in response to the wishes of each state’s voters. That’s how a constitutional republic works. Take note, Democrats.

The protests, the hysteria, the violence, the doxing, the pearl-clutching and exaggerations about this ruling are proof positive of how much the left always jumps every single shark. And it’s a ploy to distract us from their policies which have weakened our country by nearly every measurable data point.

Rational, thinking people see through the smokescreen. This orchestrated attempt to distract voters — particularly women — should not shield Democrats from the consequences of their glaring failures. So nice try, Mrs. Pelosi, but we’re on to you. And we’re going to trust that the kitchen table issues that Americans care most about — the issues that affect them daily — will be what drives Democrats out of power in 2022 and beyond.
